New ownership leads to new numbers for Gabriel

LAS VEGAS — Gabriel North America is heading in a much more open direction following its sale to private equity firm OpenGate Capital at the end of June.

“Now we are able to make investments where we see fit,” says Jeff Gammons, Gabriel’s marketing and communications manager.

One of those new investments is in 300 new product numbers with 1,600 new applications, which will be unveiled in the new 2010 catalog. Money invested by OpenGate is being spent partially on engineering, meaning “a lot more product availability and significantly improved coverage,” says Gammons.

One of those additions is the next generation MaxControl monotube shock to meet the greater performance demands of today’s drivers. The redesign features a new rod guide bearing for smooth and effortless rod movement allowing for greater sensitivity and response. An additional external rod seal was added to the already proven design to further enhance durability for long-lasting performance.

Gammons adds that OpenGate is focusing on an entrance strategy, allowing Gabriel to boost its offerings as well as focus on plant improvements for delivery, order fulfillment and improvements for Gabriel’s distributors.

“This is our focus, no question about what’s core,” says Lisa Bahash, president, Ride Control, LLC. “What’s driving our investment is this. It’s very positive.”
